View Full Version : Attack on degreeboard

Well, we must be coming to the attention of some folks because I just read an "attack" on degreeboard at another forum for allowing someone associated with a controversial university a opportunity to have a say. I guess allowing diverse points of view is verboten and offensive in some quarters. We must be doing a good job here of having mature, non-acrimonious discussions of different perspectives in order to stimulate such an attack :)

A lot of over reaction in my opinion.

What goes on at other sites is irrelevant to degreeboard and its mission.

We have a vision of what we want to achieve, and we will keep on keeping on towards that vision. The support of our contributors here is valued and we know that what we are providing is meeting a need.

Many shades of opinion on DL are represented here. If people want to debate the issues, this is the place to do it. On the other hand, if people want to close down debate because of their intolerance for others' opinions, behave obnoxiously and demonstrate the maturity of small children this is not the place for them.

If others perceive us as a threat, that is a matter for them and whatever particular issues they may have.

I don't know of anyone here who doesn't attend an accredited school.

The last time I checked, the University of Houston, North Carolina Central University and North Carolina Wesleyan College were all accredited by SACS. I don't think that has changed. So I have attended accredited universities and colleges.

I am possibly the evil one

I have 7 academic qualifications and all are recognised by the preferred professional associations and learned societies as is the accepted practice in the British Commonwealth, and 1 unaccredited doctorate which is recognised by my academic peers by design after due inquiry, and by my main university either by design or by default, but it is after I sent my doctoral degree and transcript as requested - I know not as I have not asked why they and the Vice Chancellor call me Dr French in their records and correspondence.

However I remain simply as below.

Maybe I am the evil one.

I have two accredited brick and mortar bachelors degrees and a DETC accredited MBA. I am also enrolled in 2 accredited history type masters programs.

But, but, but - I have an unaccredited religious bachelors and am working on an unaccredited religious masters for personal interest (shame, shame)

I won't even mention ........ naw.

SCUPS does have some interesting programs. I think the business and management fields are better served by other institutions (e.g. SCUPS sister NCU). But the psychology and law programs may be worthwhile.

Hi Tireman4. I attend a California Correspondence Law School. Which is unaccredited by the State Bar, and unaccredited from any agencies recognized by the DoE. The school does allow me to take the CA-Bar exam. You can check the blog in my signature for regular and un-exciting follow-ups.

I have been admitted to SCUPS  . In completion of 10 psychology courses, I will transfer the credits to NCU and enroll in the Psy Ph.D program. However, I will continue to take courses from SCUPS and finish the Psy.D for personal enrichment. The courses at SCUPS are very similar if not identical to those at NCU.

Well, all my work so far has been done in accredited schools. If anyone wants to see them, I'll be thrilled *smile* to list them.

When I finish my current program though, I'm seriously thinking of doing doctoral work at a seminary that is not yet accredited (who knows by then). I don't care. It's something that I've always wanted to do and I cannot pack up and leave my husband to go off somewhere to school. Bless his heart -- he's put up with me for 25 years and I don't think I'll find anyone else who would do that (put up with me for all that time).

Do SCUPS credits transfer?

Here is a response from a NCU staff member: Hope this helps :)

"Thank you for your interest in Northcentral University.

NCU accepts credits from Southern California University (SCUPS) on a
conditional basis. We would evaluate your transcripts for transfer
credit and accept the credits "conditionally" toward your program. Upon
completing 3 courses through Northcentral with a grade of "B" or better
you can gain full acceptance into the program and the courses from
previous schools that are eligible for transfer would officially be
applied toward your degree. If you were not able to complete the three
courses at Northcentral with at least a "B" you would not be allowed to
continue in the program. With this policy we are able to accept
students with nationally accredited degrees and allow them to pursue
their doctorates at Northcentral.

If I can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I'm reminded of the old man who swore his feet didn't stink, but that was only his opinion. Others may hold a different opinion, depending on how close they sit.

Now as to unaccredited schools being good or bad. They are as good as they are. Each having those qualities it has established and protected. When you lump all things or persons by groups you guarantee inaccuracy. Each is a stand alone quality, not in any way being representative of the group as a whole. Consider things one at a time and you'll find the truth, if you seek it. If not just use whatever agenda you already carry and don't bother with the pretense of objectivity.
