 : I would like to have some opinions on what constitutes a "personal attack" from the point of view of members of this forum ? Is this an obvious thing or does simply asking a fellow poster to back up a claim count as such ? On one particular forum (to remain nameless), a personal attack appears to be simply questioning the so-called facts, views, beliefs or educational credentials of certain long-term members. Is that considered a personal attack here ?

NO POSTS VIOLATING PEOPLE'S PRIVACY such as releasing name, phone, address, place of business etc. This is subject to immediate banning.

I would also throw in name calling and being a general pain in the arse as well.

Michael summed it up nicely as far as the biggest no no.

Keep in mind this is a distance learning site, and dedicated to that. If you can and will contribute to this cause you will do just fine. You might want to review some of the hotter threads as far as what our moderation limits are, some moderators allow more than others and have their own beliefs on certain sides of the debate, this was intentional as we like and want to hear many sides and voices.

We've only perm banned one real user so far and I'd like to keep it that way.

Viewpoints here are probably as varied as you will get in DL. There is a good deal of tolerance for different opinions, provided they are not expressed in an obnoxious manner.

I think we are all agreed that asking someone to produce facts to back up their statements is a reasonable thing to do in debate. I've done that myself here several times.

I think I've got it: be polite, be honest, stay on topic and be civil in debate.
Good enough. :)
