View Full Version : Update on Oregon case about Bob Jones U.
Appeals court ruling goes against UCC writing instructor (http://www.newsreview.info/article/20050826/NEWS/108260077)
This is about an Umpqua Community College instructor who won $1 in a case in which she claimed that Alan Contreras and the Oregon Office of Degree Authorization took action against her "because of bias toward Bob Jones University, where she earned undergraduate and graduate degrees."

Interesting, I don't recall Mr. Contreras admitting that the state was ordered attorney fees for Ms. Benton to the sum of $400k, I seem to recall his relishment of the $1 award. I also don't recall him admitting the opinion of the district judge was (from the article):
"U.S. District Judge Michael Hogan ruled that the state Office of Degree Authorization took action against the UCC instructor because of bias toward Bob Jones University,"
Of course at least the $400k was overturned.
One interesting implication is that her legal costs were $442,191. Am I interpreting this correctly?
A cost of $442,191 for a relatively simple lawsuit like this might explain why there have been so few challenges.

@ $250/hr, that's about 10 man months of legal work. Seems a bit much.
