The Catholic Distance University, (www.cdu.edu) accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC), a nationally recognized agency, offers a bachelor's and two master's degree programs entirely via distance learning.

The Bachelor of Arts is a degree completion program.

The Master in Religious Studies and the Master of Arts in Religious Studies degrees appear to be very comprehensive and in-depth.

Naturally, most of the courses focus on Catholic theology but we don't discuss schools outside the Protestant tradition too much so I wanted to make everyone aware of CDU.

Each course is $750 (may go to $800) in '05. CDU has a payment plan that will help those who cannot afford such steep fees.

I am personally considering either enrolling in Temple Baptist Seminary or in CDU. I will have to wait to see what my finances are after the first of the year. Things are pretty tight right now but I really want to earn a theological master's degree from an accredited institution.

Why don't you go for an accredited doctorate. UNISA has options in hermeneutics and textual criticism--a chance to use all that Aramaic and Greek. The D.Litt. et Phil. is respected degree.

I was abd for years and you can't imagine the personal satisfaction of getting that piece of paper. It wraps ups lots of personal issues into one diploma. Just thinking out loud and wishing you the very best in any endeavor. You might suggest the same to your frustrated Lutheran colleague at another forum. :)

Hi,

I came close to working on a South African doctorate, was registered at one and ended up enorlling in a U.S. school that is a candidate for NCA accreditation. I just didn't nor want to write a dissertation. I am satisfied with my Bethany Ph.D.

I have decided to enroll in Temple Baptist Seminary and earn the M.Min. I have an accredited bachelor's and master's. I like doing coursework; I don't like writing lengthy papers.

Congrats on your RA Ph.D. Any suggestions you have for others should be made by you, not me, ha!

UNISA is a great program from what I hear. I suggest you might start another thread to tell us in more detail what your experience was. From what I hear the SA universities are excellent in content but slow in responding to the student, particularly at the initial stages.
