How bad is this one? Is it possible to go there and be fooled into thinking it's legit? Curious.

A few years back when I was a young rookie cop, I was desperately looking for a degree program with flexibility. I "googled" some keywords and got along list of "school". One of them was Canyon College. I browsed the website and was impressed with the amount of degree options available. This was way before I knew anything about accreditation. I contacted the school and my questions quickly responded to. Howeve, the question of the school being accredited was ignored. I asked again and they replied with the usual "accreditation is voluntary in the U.S, blah blah". I ofcourse got suspicious and did more research. I studies accreditation, the difference between RA and NA, and eventually earned a NA degree.
So ,to answer your question, I think someone could be fooled into thinking its legit only because they were too lazy to research the school or take the time to learn about accreditation. I took an extra week to read up on accreditation before deciding on a school. If I went with Canyon I would feel pretty foolish right now and would have a very hard time defending my "degree".
Just my thoughts.

It has been I while since I looked up Canyon's website. It sure is impressive. I assume it still has the status of an unlicensed Idaho school that is tolerated because it does not sell within Idaho.
I don't remember any past discussion on the merit of their coursework.

Unaccredited, one of those Idaho "things" that seem to be able to exist and related to Breyer State one way of another. I think if you do not follow accreditation topics, you can be easily fooled.
Question: Is Canyon College accredited?
Answer: Yes, Canyon College is accredited with the following accrediting agencies:
Central States Consortium of Colleges and Schools, (CSCCS)
This is just not acceptable.
... This is just not acceptable.I agree. If a school is not accredited by a recognized agency it should simply say so (à la Akamai).
Thanks for your thoughts guys. To my dismay, I read in the local news paper yesterday about a police officer who is pursuing a master's degree from "Canyon College".

Canyon College may or may not be good but two things are for certain, they are unaccredited and they mislead prospective students into thinking that the accreditation they claim is recognized.
In my opinion claiming unrecognized accreditation does not help them and only lower their standards and takes away any real effort that they may be trying to establish.
Does anyone know if how much, if any, actual coursework is involved there?
