Another VAE DL university...

This place is interesting. Its degree-granting authority comes from French-speaking Dominica (where it is unaccredited), but it also has contact details in the US, France and Argentina.

The website is pretty thorough, but no names of faculty are given anywhere. The fees are a good deal more expensive than Sorbon.

That led me also to the wonderfully-named Epictetus College (http://www.epictetus-college.org) which appears to be an offshoot of UMI. It is some time since I last saw a guarantee of the type they offer at http://www.epictetus-college.org/recognition.htm

GUARANTEE

Epictetus College commits itself to a full refund of fees to any graduate who has not enhanced his professional or social status thanks to his degree within five years.

Res ipsa loquitur, as Epictetus himself would probably have said.

Masters Euro 1850
Doctorates Euro 2400

...and if you can't make the grade you can get an Honourary degree for Euro 2100

The prices make more sense than with the other 'offering' but what is the process - my French isn't the best :-)

or better still the Doctorate is Euro 1599 at Epictetus - but WHO are they?

OK - questions:

1. How different/similar is UMI to our 'other option' in France?

2. How different is the Island connection of the other option to this Roseau 'institution'?

Are both Robert Sorbon and UMI/Epictetus playing the same game or are they both equally RA comparable?

Interesting questions. Here's my own feeling:

1. Fairly, but Sorbon is trying harder a) to appeal to a US audience and b) to stress its legitimacy regarding external approval and the utility of its degrees in general. Plus Sorbon lists some of its faculty, puts up its timescales and shows its documents from Anjouan and France; UMI doesn't.
2. UMI is an IBC in Dominica as far as can be established - Sorbon has accreditation from Anjouan, whatever that may signify, so is more than just an offshore corp.
3. UMI is not recognised by the French authorities, although they say their degrees will be accepted there.

I would say Sorbon wins hands down - but whether any of it is RA comparable is very much a matter for discussion at present.

FYI
I do not know,

Dominica is not a French speaking Island of the Carribean..

La Dominique is a small French Island part of Guadeloupe near Basse terre but Dominica, has some French sounding city names, but is English speaking and part of HM The Queeen's Commonwealth.

The address shown is not in "La Dominique". You will never have a "Castle street" in a French départment or territoire d'outre mer.

Thank you, Alain, that is useful.

I had no idea Dominica wasn't French-speaking and I can't say I would have learned that from the UMI site.

Alain Michal,

I have also received an evaluation from Epictetus College which is affiliated with the Universite Multiculturelle Internationale. I am still investigating. But I can tell you one thing, they probably don’t share the same email address with their evaluator.

I would expect you to have a negative comment regarding UMI, after all they are a competitor of yours. I am open to fresh, unbiased information on UMI though.

Dear Sir, I did not posted a negative comment.

Once again we are stating simply the facts (and try to stick to it): Dominica is not France, period. Here is what the CIA says in Worlds Facts:

"Dominica was the last of the Caribbean islands to be colonized by Europeans, due chiefly to the fierce resistance of the native Caribs. France ceded possession to Great Britain in 1763, which made the island a colony in 1805. In 1980, two years after independence, Dominica's fortunes improved when a corrupt and tyrannical administration was replaced by that of Mary Eugenia CHARLES, the first female prime minister in the Caribbean, who remained in office for 15 years."

This school is not a competitor as Ecole Supérieure Universitaire Robert de Sorbon is not for profit but a colleague from an independent Carribean island. FYI Dominica is not part of Europe, nor ratified the Lisbon Convention. (just facts again).

If you want to write to our E-mail address, please do not hesitate it is sorbon@sorbon.fr

You will be probably also interested in our new posting that shows the control of the French Government on Robert de Sorbon degrees and programs as stated by us and the Law. Please see:
