This is interesting.
On the one hand, I see some non-wonderful institutions on their list.
On the other, this seems rather more substantial than your average unrecognised accreditor.
There seems to be an Australian root to this organisation, as well as a UK connection. Do our Australian members and others know any more about it?
Definitely associated with Australian Correspondence Schools (http://www.acs.edu.au/default.aspx) (ACS).
A quick Google session shows IARC using http://www.acs.edu.au/iarc in 2002. This URL now redirects to http://www.iarcedu.com/.

Not new. If you can be bothered you can check out all of the 'institutions' and they may look OK at first - just dig a little deeper. We don't need this type of accreditation out here, nor do we need to set up a branch overseas unless we are attempting to offer something that we are NOT qualified to offer here.
This is when we need George Brown around ... this 'accreditor' is of NO consequence and we are entitiled to view any member as suspect.

George is a posting member here, so we may yet hear the benefit of his views.
I also don't understand what the purpose of their accreditation is, given that there seems to be no attempt to gain government, professional or academic recognition (beyond its members) for it.

Hi all,
IARC is a creation of ACS (as mentioned above) in order to create some sort of non-governmental recognition system, whatever that means. It has absolutely no standing at all in Australian VET or Higher Education (it is not listed on the AQF Register - see http://www.aqf.edu.au/register.htm). It is more like a club, where likeminded entities have gathered to do whatever they do. My major concern is that the words 'Australia' and 'Accredited' are both used in the same sentence - that is what really, really irks me.
Cheers,
George
