I like the MSM degree program for a number of reasons, most important being the content and emphasis on Leadership.
I worked within the financial industry for over seven years and I did notice that some senior managers got their positions based solely on a securities certificate and years of experience, while others had a degree not related to the field plus experience.
What I find lacking in most of these managers was a leadership quality - the ability to delegate, to motivate and inspire, to plan and to execute for maximum productivity whilst incurring the least cost.
Mind you, these managers knew their jobs - administrative manager, departmental manager, office manager or whatever - what they lacked was the leadership quality, how to control, manage, plan, delegate and motivate.

This points out what seems to be a new trend. As MBA's become increasingly ubiquitous the dual degree (MBA/MSM or similar) is becoming the hot item. Programs are combining one degree based on technical knowledge with another based on organizational, leadership, or IT skills (e.g., UMUC (http://info.umuc.edu/acct-fin/center/individualizedprograms.html)).
